Yes, you have to select both entities, and then use 'Edit > Color > Interpolate from another entity'.

Interesting. What kind of advice are you looking for? Generally, I would say the best option is to start from an existing plugin that's not too far away from what you try to achieve? (for instance, do you need your own dedicated 3D view? A complex dialog? etc.)

Nope, the Chi2 value just give you an information of how well the selected distribution (Normal or Poisson) fits with your data...

Normally, if it's only the origin, you should be able to select the sensor entity, use 'Edit > Sensor > Edit' and the read/copy its center ('C' row = Cx Cy Cz).
