Is there a simple way to get a 2D-view of a point cloud with the Z dimension represented as some color scale (like a scalar field)?

The maximum points in LAZ 1.0 - 1.3 is 2^32 - 1 (4.2+ billion). LAS/LAZ 1.4 supports 2^64 -1, but liblas that ClouldCompare uses doesn't support it.
