Re: Best way to go from point cloud to CAD?

You are correct! All I had to do was the old trick: changed the extension from *.pts to *.xyz.

I don't have any results yet, it is taking a looooooong time.

Thx

Re: Best way to go from point cloud to CAD?

You may try with the PoissonRecon plugin ( https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/index.php?title=Poisson_Surface_Reconstruction_(plugin) ). Since I have been unable to use the Poisson Surface Reconstruction plugin, allow me to ask this. Once that plugin performs its cool magic and my ghost points b...

Re: Best way to go from point cloud to CAD?

Otherwise you can look at MeshLab [...] There must be a common confusion about MeshLab (or perhaps I am the confused one :-) I have been asking about this issue all over forumland and this is the 3rd. or 4th. time that I am told to try MeshLab. I did it but MeshLab takes meshes as input, whereas I ...

Why are my plugins disabled?

[Newbie Alert] I am attempting to use the Poisson Surface Reconstruction Plugin. I load my cloud point file but the plugin is disabled. Perhaps the underlying data must conform to certain attributes? "to use this plugin, the user must select a point cloud with normals" All my plugins are d...

I am looking for best practices for what seems to be the proper route: point cloud ==> Mesh ==> CAD Another requirement: this is a ...

Is my point cloud data unusual?

Hello: This is the first time I deal with point cloud files. I received one, coming from a Leica Geosystems scanner which has 36,146,778 lines. When I read it with CloudCompare there are errors about the first 11 lines. Perhaps this is a non-standard file format in which the top 11 rows have a speci...
