Points and point lists graphic visualisation

Post by leo »

Hi, I am curious if cloud compare can help me visualising points with for example different colours or shapes. I have a point cloud and some lists of markers as txt ascii files in the same coordinate system of the point cloud, let’s say points ‘A type’ and point ‘B type’. Do you have any suggestions for graphically visualising them as different entities? Thank you

Different colors is easy (just add R, G and B columns to the ASCII file so as to assign a different color to each point). Another option is to add a single value (which will be loaded as a scalar field) and use a custom color scale.

You can also add 'labels' to a point cloud (just add a column with strings). You'll need a recent version of CC to do that.

Otherwise, there's no mean currently to

I was about to send you a screenshot before I read your comment. What I am doing at the moment is put point size between 5 and 16 and add a constant scalar field for each ascii file, and play with different colours. I will do what you suggested, which is easier. Anyway the graphical output of points is interfering with other entities (the main point cloud) in the workspace (appearing/disappearing/partially covered/blurred, if I made the idea), even if the ascii file is at the first level in the hierarchy, unfortunately.
