Hello,
I am trying to unroll a tunnel in which I have collected point cloud data using a mobile robot. The problem is that the tunnel is very irregular and is not straight. I have been looking through the help comments and these seem to be the most relevant:
Unroll - Parabolic

Texture of collapsed towers

unroll texture

That being said I am not getting great results. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thank you,
John

Re: Unrolling a tunnel
Wow, this is going to be hard... frankly I don't see how to handle this case :(

Oh Sweet!!! Do I win a prize since I stumped you? :{)
Like I said, I think creating a polyline is the best way to go, but I have had little luck.
Thanks for your software though, it is great and is a real contribution to a lot of people. I used to to upload .pcd files from a ROS equipped robot, clean up the point cloud, make the mesh, and export it as a .las. All of that super helpful to me and my research.
I will let you know if I come up with something.
Thanks,
John

Re: Unrolling a tunnel
I have a similar project, but with lava tubes. Cutting the tube or cave into segments worked well. Find segment that are most like a cylinder and treat them separately.
