Batch apply custom Intensity ramp to RGB fields

Post by Chris06 »

Hi Daniel and team,

Firstly, I've been using cloudcompare forever and I want to thank you for such an awesome (and free!!) tool.

Secondly, I'm hoping you might be able to help me. I've got a black and white (intensity) point cloud and I'd like to change the colour ramp to (a preferably customised) colour spectrum. This is to enable us to spot slight changes in reflectivity more easily in software (such as Revit) which currently doesn't support a custom intensity ramp. Presently we are trying to spot where light grey turns to slightly darker light grey, but I'd prefer to be looking for orange changing to green for example.

I know I can do this inside CC itself by applying the custom intensity ramp and then using edit>scalar fields>convert to RGB but I imagine a utopia where I have a script, point it to a whole bunch of .e57 files and a custom colour ramp and have it chug away converting them one by one.

Is this somehow possible?

Any help would be appreciated!

Well you can already do it I believe:
- apply a custom color ramp with the '-SF_COLOR_SCALE' in the command line mode (see https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/i ... _line_mode).
- convert to RGB with '-SF_CONVERT_TO_RGB'

P.S.: CloudCompare is Free but not exactly 'free' (donations or contributions are welcome :p)

Thanks so much Daniel; that looks to be what I'm after so I'll give it a try.

And I understand the 'free' nature; I will make sure we make a contribution for the hard work you and the team put in!
