Hi, sorry for the newby question, with other software i can compare the cloud with a plane and have as results the difference in meters from the plane (positive or negative).
The other software is 3dreshaper.
After read a lot of tread on this forum and the manual is not clear to me if is possible to do this with CloudCompare and how to fo it.
Define a plane? in the other one i Import a cad line and on it i define my plane
Do the math? I see that the difference from cloudcompare are not in meters but statistical (correct or i misunderstood?)
I need to do this on a quay, to show where the structure is away form the vertical plane and so give a waring about the structure.
Kind regards
Compare cloud vs plan
Re: Compare cloud vs plan
You can either 'fit' a plane on a cloud (or a polyline) with 'Tools > Fit > Plane'.
Then select this plane and the cloud, and compute the distances with 'Tools > Distances > Cloud/Mesh Dist.'
And the results of the distances computation are expressed in the same units as the input clouds.
You can also select (segment) a part of the cloud to fit the plane more accurately or compare the right part of the cloud.
Then select this plane and the cloud, and compute the distances with 'Tools > Distances > Cloud/Mesh Dist.'
