Something that I would find very useful would be to use the keyboard arrow keys to pan the current view but only in those directions, or maybe holding Ctrl down when mouse dragging a view to move only in X, Shift only in Y and Alt only in Z.
For example it would be very useful when looking for vertical deviations in a long flat rail - holding the right arrow key would zoom the view along the rail but not wander up and down. It would be much quicker and accurate than constantly clicking and dragging from one side of the screen to the other.
You can do it by disabling the unwanted directions in your space mouse control but its time consuming and a bit clunky.
