Curved line distance measurement

Is any such thing as a distance measurement between two points where the distance follows the contour of the curved 3D shape (Cylinder)? (i.e. Arc Length)
I often need to measure the arc length between two points on a cylindrical tank wall.

Currently if I want to measure the arc length between two points I have to do calculations based on cylinder radius and the straight distance between Point A and Point B (Chord length)

Nope. You can draw a polyline and get the polyline length, but that would be tedious and approximative...

Any chance this could be added as a feature request?
New Curved line measurement tool could show:
1. Surface Distance (Shortest line between 2 points along the surface)
2. Horizontal Surface Distance (Same as first measurement but only in X,Y Axis)
3. Vertical Surface Distance (Same as first one but only in z axis)
