Random segmentation

Hi --
I have a SfM-generated point cloud of a rocky coastal platform. I am trying to segment the cloud into 100s of randomly located smaller "quadrats". Is there a way within the segmentation tool to do this?

There's a way to automatically segment in quadrats (or any rectangular box) automatically with the Cross Section tool, but it won't be random but done in a regular way...
