Hi,
As I understand it, the latest version of Cloud Compare (V 2.5.3) has three options for registering two clouds: (1) Manual translation/rotation or (2) align via point pairs picking, and (3) iterative closest point for precise adjustments (if the segments of cloud to be registered are sufficiently similar).
Could you possibly confirm whether the 4-points congruent sets registration algorithm (Aiger et al., 2008) is no longer implemented in CC and, if not, explain why you decided not to withdraw this tool?

You can find this latter algorithm in the 'Tools> Sand-box (research)' sub-menu under the name "Auto align clouds".
We've moved it there because it has never been properly functional (i.e. it crashes a lot). Its original developer is no more active and we haven't got the time to fix it.
If someone is willing to fix it we'll gladly re-integrate it in the "Register" sub-menu. And of course you can try it as is (if you are lucky it may even work ;).
