Importing CSV with same global coordinates as reference

Post by tarmes »

Hi,

A friend of mine did a scan of my house, which I have successfully imported into CloudCompare.

He also measured a few key points which he supplied in a CSV file. These points are in the same coordinate system as the original scan. When I import these points they're not positioned correctly onto the base scan. I can't work out how I can align the new model based on the reference scan.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Are the coordinates of some of these points (either the points in the scan, or the CSV ones) large? And is CloudCompare suggesting you to apply a Global Shift at some point? If yes, hopefully CC should suggest this for the 2 files (and you can make sure the same shift is applied to both clouds).

If not, maybe some points are not in the same coordinate system? In which case you can align one cloud with the other with the 'Align' tool:
https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/index.php/Align

Don't hesitate to share the files with me if you want a better support (admin [at] cloudcompare.org)
