Not automatically... But you can rename the scalar field (with Edit > Scalar fields > Rename) to have it much shorter.

Thanks, works great! Next question: is it possible to stick point's description to point? When I move view, location of descriptions is changing, it's burdensome when I have longer object to describe and then render to file... Example:
Descriptions flew away when I changed view to move forward.

So maybe a simpler way to do what you want to achieve is to switch from the display of a 2D label to a simple 'legend'.

Just uncheck the 'Show 2D label' option and check instead the 'Show legend(s)' option.
