mesh question

Hello. I have scanned a section of pipe, both internally and externally. I have generated a mesh from the points, showing the internal and external surfaces - this pipe has areas of corrosion so the mesh is thinner in some parts than others. My question is if there is anyway to colour the mesh by thickness (i.e. distance between internal and external walls. At the moment it is all a single mesh.

Are you able to split the original cloud or the resulting mesh into two parts? I guess that's your question? :D
