Faro Plugin for Windows 32 Bit version

Hi,

I just downloaded and installed CloudCompare for Windows (32 Bit). The install for CloudCompare worked fabulously, but I cannot install the Faro plugin. I instead get a an error message: "Internal error: Cannot install files to 64-bit locations on this version of Windows."

Thoughts? Every last one of my files in in fls format.

I'm working on the Windows 7 platform.

Thanks, Meghann

So you have a Windows 7 32 bits version?!

That's a bit silly because I have tested the 32 bits installer but on a Windows 64 bits version (I don't have a 32 bits one). I guess something may be wrong with the installer itself (because the installer explicitly tries to launch "FARO LS 5.3.3.38662 x86 Setup.exe" so I trust Faro for providing a valid 32 bits application ;).

Can you describe exactly at what point of the installation the error message appears?

I do indeed have Windows 7, 32-bit. The installer works fine as long as I do not click the box to "Install Faro I/O plugin..." If I do select the Install Faro box, click next, and then click Install, I get the error message. If do not select the box to install Faro, no problem, CloudCompare installs.

Another followup - I installed the 32-bit version of CloudCompare with the "Install Faro" selected on a computer running XP instead of Windows 7. No error message, but no Faro plugin either. It doesn't show up in the plugins list, and CloudCompare "Can't guess file format: unhandled file extension 'fls'" when I try to open my .fsl files.

On this XP machine:
  • do you have a 'QFARO_IO_PLUGIN.dll' file in the CloudCompare/plugins directory?
[*)] and a 'CloudCompare.exe.manifest' file in the CloudCompare directory?
If yes, do you see an error message in the Console at startup?

No QFARO_IO_PLUGIN.dll in the plugins directory. And no CloudCompare.exe.manifest in the CloudCompare directory, just the regular CloudCompare.exe.

Just as if no Faro installation was performed! This is why it worked ;)

So I guess there's really something strange with the CloudCompare installer...
