Linked files

I don't think this is currently possible but it would be very handy to be able to insert a number of separate BIN files as non editable links, rather than editable objects.
My reason for wanting this is twofold:
1) Several people could then work on chunks of data, if a master assembly is created using linked files these could update (on file opening?) to see how all the chunks of data are developing without having to create and position all the individual BINs.
2) When working on a large memory consuming project working on smaller chunks at a time makes things easier. Just open the master top level assembly every now and again to see how things are coming together.
3) (Ok, I just thought of this one) if you loose\corrupt\eat one of the small BIN files its not catastrophic.
I can imagine this would be a lot of work however.......
