Slopes of various areas of a point cloud

Post by CCnewb »

Good Afternoon everyone,

I have been using cloud compare for a little while now, but I am not well versed in the more advanced features of CC. I am working on a research project which includes creating point clouds of pedestrian access ramps, and then extracting measurements from said point cloud. Many of the measurements are slopes from around the ramp. I understand how to use the point picking tool, however I was wondering if there is a way that would allow me to overlay some type of mesh or layer to show various slopes of different areas of the ramp. Essentially I am wondering if there is a way to classify and extract different slopes from various areas and show them in some type of layer or mesh. Thank in advance.

You would probably have to compute the normals of the cloud (if that's possible with clouds representing ramps?) and then convert the normals to dip / dip direction, or use the 'Stereogram' tool of the qFacets plugin to segment the points based on their orientation?
