I would like to use bin files to store my point clouds but I often find that I cannot open bin files created by different versions of CC. Is there any way to work with bin files that they'll be forwards/backward compatible looking into the future?

So a more recent version of CloudCompare can always open a BIN file generated with an older version (we guarantee backward compatibility).

But the other way is not possible due to how the format works.
