Hi,

This is probably an easy task, but id figure i would ask anyway.

I wonder how i can evaluate the length of an object, and perhaps also the area and volume as the next step.

I figured out how to measure the length from two points, however i struggle to understand the values i am getting from the length. I would like to have it in meters or millimeters or something that i can work with. Perhaps there is something i need to do in advance, like set a coordinate system by defining the actual length from 1 point to the other, based on a measurement that i need to do in advance?

Well, CloudCompare doesn't manage 'units', because almost no point cloud format specify the units. We just read the coordinates as they are stored in the file, and display all the measurements in the same implicit units. Only the user can determine the units (based on what you measure with the Point picking tool for instance typically).

If you don't know what the units are, because the scale is arbitrary (which happens with Photogrammetry clouds for instance), then you'll have first have to rescale the cloud indeed (see https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/i ... e_entities)

Just to clarify. In the picture i have attached i tried to evaluate the length of the car, and the distance is 4.67. Is this in meters or can i not be sure?

You would have to check with the data provider / software that produced it.

But yes, 4.6m looks like a typical length for a car ;)
