Multiple clouds ICP alignment ?

Hi,
I was looking for a way to align multiple clouds all at once. One roundabout solution is to align the two first clouds, then align the third with the second and so on... However, this results in problems when using points clouds or meshes that have a "cyclic" structure.
For instance with any 3d scans of an object, one from the front, one from each side and one from behind. If I "align" with ICP the front scan (reference) with left side scan, then the left (reference) with back and finally the back (reference) with right.
I end up with errors that sum up between each alignment resulting in an alignment error between the right side scan and the front scan side
This is why I was wondering if there is a way to align multiple clouds, especially with ICP, at once, and if not I think it would be an interesting feature request if an algorithm exists.
