CC Optimization

Post by Granny_Jojo »

Hello all,

I am having hard time with CC on my new workstation.
Currently working with 700m+ point clouds and CC seems quite slow.
For some reason simple things are taking a lot of time, eg. zooming, cutting, resizing etc.
I often get "Not responding" but just wait it out. Is there some configuration that I might be missing?
Have much larger clouds in line ready for georeferencing, and I am afraid that it would not be able to handle them. I have noticed that for some reason CC uses only 70-80Gb of RAM in this case. While on old workstation, It uses all 128Gb installed. Is there a cap in RAM usage? I am really confused rn and would appreciate any help.

Running latest CC.
Workstation configuration:
2x AMD EPYC 7H12 64-Core
2x Nvidia A40 48Gb
1Tb RAM at 2933 MHz.

Hum, I guess it could be related to the graphic card driver? I know that the Quadro drivers could behave strangely when they were detecting a heavy load on the GPU and a too long blocking of the pipeline. I believe there was an option like a 'research mode' to disable this security feature.

And have you enabled the 'color ramp shader' and the option 'Try to load clouds on the GPU for faster display'?

Hello Daniel, thank You for response.

My IT department is convincing me that drivers are up to date and system is working fine.
I did try out different industrial software and can utilize full power when needed.
Only have problems with CC unfortunately.

I do have both mentioned options enabled in CC.
Research mode is I think exclusively on Quadro cards, so unfortunately that cannot be the problem.

I am really lost since my configuration should handle clouds like that without any problems.

Hum, sadly this kind of issues is hard to debug remotely... And what about the 'Decimate clouds over XXX points when moved' option? Does it help if you deactivate it?
