Cave Volume Calculation

Hi everyone,
short background:
I am working on my PhD research project in which we deposit radioactive waste container dummies into a void in an underground mine. After they were positioned I used a hand held laserscanner to take scans.
I want to use cloudcompare in order to calculate the volume. Ive read already that 2.5D estimation occasionally gives weird results. I was mainly sticking to follow youtube tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBPi5l- ... eoTeknique
Problem is that the calculated volume approximately deviates about 10% from the one we estimated by manual measuring of the void.
My question is, if there is any other method that is more accurate or does cloudcompare estimate it wrong using the 2.5D function due to the dummy that is emplaed inside the void?
Attached are screenshots and a picture of how the dummy inside the void looks in real life.
