Procedure in upgrading the version and Result of saving in .las/.laz format

Hello, thank you for the acceptance to this forum.

I am a new user of CC program and need to learn more about it.
The question I have right now is on upgrading procedure of this software and saving issues.

Recent version I use is v2.12 alpha, but I can not save the work to .pcd.
There is a post in the forum that v2.12 beta can handle it, that is why I want to upgrade the one I use now. Is there any chance to upgrade without uninstalling the previous version like in Agisoft?
I try to find v2.12 beta in your website but it does not seem to be available. Maybe I miss something when searching. Instead, I find 2.13 alpha. Is it better? Is the stereo version better?

When I try to save in .laz or .las format, with v2.12 alpha, the result is in AutoCAD Layer State, is it correct? because I can not open it on Agisoft Metashape.

So I'm not sure why you want to stick to v2.12.alpha or beta. The official v2.12.4 release is out for quite some time (and it incorporates all the feature of the beta version, but in a cleaner state). And yes, the v2.13.alpha version is quite good and already rather stable.

If you want to run multiple versions of CC next to each others, you can use the '7zip package' versions.

The 'stereo' version is only useful if you have a stereo-capable display.

And last I don't understand your question about .las or .laz format, sorry.

Hi Daniel, thank you for the fast respond and explanation.

Regarding .las format, I have tried several times to save the work in .las format but the result is always with AutoCAD Layer State extention . I do not know whether .las and AutoCAD Layer State is the same or not.
The procedure applied is: tick the folder > save > choose cloud .las/.laz > choose optimal resolution + save additional fields > ok.

But saving process in .laz format success with similar steps. Are both .las/.laz the same? Some people said .las is better, but the other said .laz is better. That is why I want to try to save the result in both .las and .laz formats.

For .pcd format, I have upgraded the software I use to v2.13 alpha, but it still doesn't work. After several seconds, the process always stop and the program directly and automatically closed.
The procedure is: tick the folder or file needed > save > choose point cloud library cloud (.pcd) > save.

Actually, the original folder consists of 222 cloud files which is around 22 GB. Because each of these 222 cloud files represents different parts of a building, therefore, I need to merge them together to form or create a complete building, as 1 file, and would like to save it in .pcd and .las.
The above mentioned are the results.

But, in contrary, I can save each of them as .pcd, meaning that I have 222 .pcd files instead of 1 compact file. It means the result is not a complete building but 222 body part of a building.

Would you please enlightend me, maybe there is something missing or wrong in the above stated procedure applied? (please find the attached 1 example file in regard to the .las - AutoCAD Layer State).

No LAS/LAZ has nothing to do with Autocad. It's a standard and open Lidar point cloud format (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAS_file_ ... ar%20data.).

And LAZ is just the compressed version of LAS (at the price of a potential loss of numerical accuracy, but you have the control of it).

And last, I guess your cloud is probably too big to be saved as .PCD. I guess your 222 merged clouds must weight quite a lot in RAM. And then we have to duplicate it as a PCL point cloud and pass it to the PCL library so that it's saved as a .PCD file...
