Is the Surface in Results the area of ​​a 2.5D grid (plane)?

I calculated the area of ​​the rock with 2.5D Volume.
It seems like a calculation result that ignores the unevenness of the rock and flattens the surface.
Is the height range of the unevenness not calculated?

yes, it is a projected area, not 3d shaped area
check attached example

To find real 3d shaped area ,you can mesh it and then use measure surface
edit -->mesh-->measure surface
